Our policies and reports
Our policies and reports help families understand how our school works. Our annual report and school plan show what we’ve done and how we’re improving each year. Our policies address attendance, absences, behaviour, uniform and how we respond to your concerns.
Annual school report
Each year, we share our progress in the annual school report. It gives families a clear picture of how our school is performing and how we’re supporting every student’s success. The report reflects our commitment to openness, accountability and continuous improvement.
The report includes:
- what we’re doing well and where we’re improving
- student achievement and academic progress
- our school vision and goals
- key highlights and milestones
- challenges we’ve faced and how we’re addressing them.
School excellence plan
Our school excellence plan (SEP) is a working document that shows our priorities in learning, teaching and leading. It explains our focus areas for improvement and how we plan to get there. We write our SEP with help from our school community so it reflects our shared priorities.
School behaviour support and management plan
Our school has a school behaviour support and management plan (SBSMP). The SBSMP helps us create a safe, respectful and supportive learning environment for all students. It sets clear expectations for student behaviour. This includes how we respond to bullying and cyberbullying. We work together with our school community to shape the plan and review it each year.
Communication guidelines and School Community Charter
At Long Flat Public School, our School Community Charter and communication guidelines support families and staff in fostering strong, positive relationships. By promoting effective and respectful communication, we aim to build strong partnerships that enhance the connection between home and school.
School attendance procedures
Regular school attendance is essential for students to achieve their full potential and expand their future career and life opportunities. Parents are legally responsible for ensuring their children attend school regularly, while schools, in partnership with parents, promote and support this attendance. School staff also have a duty of care to record and monitor full and partial absences.
Long Flat Public School is committed to providing high-quality teaching and learning, ensuring every student is known, valued, and cared for by staff and the school community. Our school goal of at least 95% attendance is our target for every student.
This document supports the School Attendance Policy and applies to all NSW Government schools.
Unsatisfactory school attendance occurs when a child has:
· Absences without explanation, even after school follow-up.
· Absences where explanations are provided but not accepted by the principal (acceptable reasons include illness, injury, religious occasions, bereavement/Sorry Business, family emergency, or unavoidable medical appointments).
· Extended periods of absence, whether the absences are consecutive or show a pattern over time.
Responsibilities of parents
· Ensure their children attend school every day it is open, with acceptable absences limited to illness, injury, family emergencies, religious/cultural reasons, or bereavement/Sorry Business.
· Work in partnership with the school to support consistent attendance, including communicating any issues affecting their child’s attendance or engagement.
· Provide the office (in person, via telephone, note, email, etc) with an explanation for arriving late or leaving early.
· Apply for extended leave travel via the school principal if the family is planning holidays throughout the school term.
· Inform the school of any changes to their child/children’s contact details immediately.
· Explain absence within 7 days of the first day of the absence.
